Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actor who was famous for her portrayal as the fierce attorney Teri Joseph in the Showtime show Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name after her wedding. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an interest in acting from childhood and received an award for the best Actress award at a Maryland high school competition. The path to acting began when she was employed by the Washington Ballet Company and theater. The actress received lots of praise after her debut large part on The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love. Contractor was born at Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She'd been exposed to a lot of travel and other cultures since a early age. The boarding school she attended was in London from seven to nine, after which her family relocated towards Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her early childhood and adulthood. Contractor had a great academic career in Toronto and also trained as a ballerina. She went to the Etobicoke School of the Arts. This is a specialized high school that teaches arts where she did not only take classes in theater but also performed and also. Contractor was inspired to pursue acting more seriously at age 16 after almost 10 years of dancing. Upon graduating from high school she accepted a full award to the University of Toronto, where she completed a masters degree in theater and a dual major in sociology and psychology. Contractor with a degree in sociology, having been a student for a year and auditioned in an open audition for Pericles, at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadain Canada] and was selected for the part. Her performance was lauded for the 92 shows which she was a part of. She won the award in 2002 for the best production of the Year, as judged by Canadian Critics. She was offered the opportunity to join Stratford Conservatory. The school allows only eight males and four woman to study traditional theater. Contractor was eager to accept. Her place was guaranteed in the next series of plays as she was offered the part in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
